All Around Game Returns Spotlight to Lecavalier

By Adam Kimelman  - NHL.com
Almost from the day the Tampa Bay Lightning made him the No. 1 pick of the 1998 Entry Draft, Vincent Lecavalier has been the face of the franchise.

The past few seasons, however, he’s been pushed a bit into the background. Steven Stamkos‘ ascent to superstardom, as well as the franchise makeover with the arrival of new owner Jeff Vinik, GM Steve Yzerman and coach Guy Boucher has put the spotlight in other areas.

However, that doesn’t mean Lecavalier is any less important to the franchise now than he has been in the past.

After 900 Games Lecavalier Still Going Strong

It may actually be easy to forget just how long Vincent Lecavalier has been the face of the Tampa Bay Lightning and an equally important representative of the Bay Area because, as he admits, it has all been a blur. But, Tuesday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, when Lecavalier, who emerged in the NHL for the 1998-99 season as a highly-touted first overall pick, played in his franchise-leading 900th career game should serve as a reminder.

Bolts’ Vincent Lecavalier Returning to Form

By Pierre LeBrun

When I wrote back in September that I thought the Tampa Bay Lightning would make the playoffs this season, I was thinking they would be battling for the seventh or eighth spot in the East. Tied for the most points in the conference with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh heading into a big game against the Penguins on Wednesday night? Not sure anyone saw that one coming.

Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer Center Ribbon Cutting

Lightning Captain Vincent Lecavalier celebrated one of the great moments in his off-ice career on Tuesday evening, cutting the ribbon on the Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at the new All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Lecavalier was joined by his father, Yvon, mother Christianne, sister Genevieve, niece Madison and girlfriend Caroline. Lightning minority owners Irwin Novack and Craig Sher were also present; Novack is a board member of the Lecavalier Foundation and Sher is a board member of All Children’s Hospital and its construction committee.

“When we announced this project in October, 2007, I don’t know that we realized just how much work we were getting ourselves into,” said Lecavalier, who credits Liz Willyoung, executive director of his foundation for working tirelessly to help raise the $3 million needed for the project.  “But now that we are so close to actually opening the hospital and the center, we are incredibly proud to be able to help Tampa Bay’s children. I’d like to thank everyone that has helped making this vision a reality.”

The Vincent Lecavalier Foundation recently celebrated its four-year anniversary and the upcoming January 9, 2010 opening of the hospital helps achieve one of the Foundation’s primary goals: to create a legacy project in the Tampa Bay community. The foundation’s principle sponsors are DEX Imaging, Kane’s Furniture and The Center for Special Needs Trust Administration.
